I found a couple of sites that have good tutorials on how to install mods for those of us (and I say us because I used to be one of those people who couldn't get a mod to work right) who have difficulties with them.

Extractor programs:

Recommended: 7-Zip - This program opens almost all zipped files except ACE files.

WinRAR - Download the trial version. You can use it indefinitely, you'll just have to click off the reminder box every time you use it. WinRAR does open ACE files.

Mod Cleaning Programs:

The Elder Scrolls Advanced Mod Editor

Wrye Mash - The link is to the wiki, which tells how to use the program and a link to download it.

TESTool - Another useful utility for cleaning mods.
